AAM In Action

AAM President Andrew Kuhn Visits Key Legislators

To begin 2024, AAM President Andrew Kuhn initiated a series of meetings with legislators who sit on the House Housing Subcommittee. The Housing Subcommittee was established at the beginning of the 2023-2024 legislative session under the Economic Development and Small Business Committee. The subcommittee is chaired by Rep. Kristian Grant (D-Grand Rapids) and consists of 5 Democrats and 4 Republicans. Many of the anti-rental housing proposals introduced in the legislature last year were referred to this committee. Mr. Kuhn’s message in these meetings has focused on AAM’s support for initiatives which address housing supply and our concern with proposals which overregulate the industry and drive up the cost of rental housing. To date, Mr. Kuhn has met with:

  • Rep. Kristian Grant (D-Grand Rapids) – Chair of the Housing Subcommittee
  • Rep. Emily Dievendorf (D-Lansing) – Majority Vice Chair of the Housing Subcommittee
  • Rep. Joseph Aragona (R-Clinton Twp) – Minority Vice Chair of the Housing Subcommittee
  • Rep. Joey Andrews (D-St. Joseph) – Housing Subcommittee
  • Rep. Andrew Fink (R-Osseo) – Housing Subcommittee

In addition to meetings with members of the House Housing Committee, Mr. Kuhn was joined by AAM Board Members Jay Brody, Jeffrey Kaftan, and Michael Tobin in a meeting with Rep. Jason Hoskins (D-Southfield). Rep. Hoskins is the chair of the Economic Development and Small Business Committee. Mr. Kuhn has also met with Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D-Keego Harbor), as well as Michigan State Housing Development Authority Director Amy Hovey.

Thank you to President Kuhn and our AAM leaders for carrying the message of the multifamily rental housing industry to our elected officials!
