Executive Order 2020-118

Disappointingly, Governor Whitmer has decided to extend the statewide eviction moratorium to June 30, 2020. Despite the objections of AAM and other real estate groups, Executive Order 2020-118 was issued yesterday. The reason given for the extension is that the Governor is seeking a state budget supplemental to provide renter assistance funding to coincide with the lifting of the moratorium.

In addition to the new executive order, the Supreme Court has issued Administrative Order 2020-17 which provides a temporary procedure for courts handling landlord/tenant cases given the continued threat of COVID-19 and the backlog of cases as a result of the moratorium. I suggest you share this with your legal counsel immediately. AAM is consulting with our members who are landlord/tenant attorneys to address concerns with the feasibility of this process, and will update you with any changes.
