Eviction Moratorium Update - May 6, 2021As you may have seen on the news, a federal judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has ruled the national eviction moratorium, issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), is unconstitutional. This ruling differs from previous rulings in other federal courts over the last few months as it vacates the moratorium in its entirety, rather than being limited to the parties involved in the individual lawsuit. However, the U.S. Department of Justice immediately filed an appeal and requested an emergency stay of the order. Here in Michigan, the Supreme Court Administrative Office has stated that despite this ruling, nothing will change relating to the moratorium or the CERA program at this point.
