Eviction Moratorium Update
August 4, 2021
My thanks to those of you who responded so quickly to our “Call to Action” last week to contact Members of Congress on the federal eviction moratorium. While we were successful (for the time being) in persuading Congress not to legislatively extend the moratorium, the Biden Administration has directed the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to order a new, “limited” moratorium for counties with “substantial” or “high” COVID-19 transmission rates. Please see the link below to access the CDC transmission map. You will note that most of the country falls under the “limited” moratorium based on the CDC metrics, including a variety of counties in Michigan.

The new order from CDC is in effect until October 3, although it is expected there will be a legal challenge to this moratorium. AAM recommends you continue to work with your legal counsel to evaluate this order and the existing court process rule from the Michigan Supreme Court, along with the availability of the renter assistance funding through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).
